Getting around the algarve

You can discover the Algarve in many different ways, and with different kinds of transport.
Ideally, this is our first recommendation, plan your expeditions and the ways of transport so, that you can discover as much as possible and as relaxed as possible as intensively as possible. This means for you that you may rely on the means and ways of traveling to the Algarve confidently. The technical standards and safety of transport in Portugal are high - even with the transportation that are retained "old"  because of historical and touristic reasons - such as some tram in Lisbon and some ships in the Algarve!

By train:
One of the best things on train journeys is the beauty of the landscapes that you get to see on the way to your final destination. In Portugal trains are operated of the Portuguese railway company Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses (CP). The trains are very clean, on time and reasonably priced. Passengers can ride the train almost the entire east-west extent of the Algarve. The distance between Lagos in the west and Vila Real de Santo António directly on the border with Spain to the east. Train travel in the Algarve is certainly not the fastest way to travel, but the scenery along the rail lines are much nicer than on the motorways. And trips by train in southern Portugal are considerably a more relaxed way to discover the Algarve.

By bus:
If you plan to get around by bus you can pick up a timetable from a bus station, shops, or at the tourist info. Coach travel in Portugal is made easy by an extensive network of privately run companies who operate with efficiency and competitive prices. EVA Transportes, Rede Nacional de Expressos and Renex are the main companies in charge of the public transport to, from and inside the Algarve. It is a easy way to come around and the bus driver will help you, that you will jump off at the right station. If you are waiting for the bus at a bus station- always wave. Then the bus will stop for sure.
New since this year!
Algarve Surf Bus:
since Aprill 2014 there is the Algarve Surf Bus in the Western Algarve for tourists and especially surfers. The bus runs daily until 31.10. from Portimão - Praia da Rocha - Alvor - Lagos - Praia da Luz - Campismo - Espiche to Praia do Amado, one of the most famous surfing beaches in the Algarve. In addition, Algarve Surf Bus is doing a city tour through Sagres.

By Car:
One of the best ways to discover the Algarve is to rent a car, drive around and find your favourite places.
You can choose which vehicle class, the equipment you want, the period for which you need it, and which additional insurance you would like to have. There are many car companies to choose from. The customer orientation and service, especially for Portuguese companies, is legendary, and the prices are cheaper than hardly anywhere in Europe. We, from PORTUGAL SERVICE can book a car for you! When we book a car with our partner, you can be sure that everything is ok. It is a great way to see the country. It is independent and free. You can achieve anything and get to know the most beautiful hidden places. The roads are easy to navigate and it is not too much traffic. Basically driving in Portugal is not more dangerous than in other EU countries. Just drive carefully and anticipation. The  friendly and adorable Portuguese people are nice and helpful to tourists on the road, even they need to be patient sometimes. Remember: the alcohol limit is 0.5! So if you drink, better take a taxi.

By taxi:
Taxi driving is not a problem either. The taxis in the Algarve are either black-green or beige and they have a sign "TAXI" on their roof. The fares are charged according to the taximeter. Quite cheap in Portugal. You can almost anywhere get a cab, you could even stop one in the middle of the road or go to the nearest taxi stand. It is common that you take the first taxi in the queue.

Discover the algarve and see how beautiful it is.
Whether by car, bus, taxi or train- We, from Portugal Service wish you a safe journey!
