Easter cakes, almonds and processions
The Christian Easter is celebrated by the Portuguese almost exactly like you are used to.
The family will meet at the church to celebrate the resurrection of Christ. After that the kids and sometimes the adults as well start to looking for their gifts and easter eggs.
The Easter egg in Portugal is called "os de ovos páscoa," The Easter Bunny "o coelho da páscoa" and the easter lamb is called "o cordeiro pascal ".
The traditional family dinner is on Easter Sunday. The dinner is lamb with mint refined, broad beans and homemade sausages. For dessert, there are Easter cake and almonds.
Bands accompany the religious processions and the balconies and windows are decorated with the most beautiful parade ceilings.
The most intersting and biggest processions of the Easter celebrations are "Mãe Soberana" in Loule and the "Tochas Florida Festa" in São Brás de Alportel. Definitely worth a visit!!
"Folar" is the typical Portuguese bread to eat during Easter. It is made of water, salt, eggs and flou. Normally they have whole hard boiled eggs on top. Originally a pagan symbol of the coming of spring!
